The Nissan Patrol 4WD Club provides free driver
training to its members (including spouse/partner). There is no
additional charge for the training, as it is included in your
membership fee. Driver Training is generally held on the weekend following a General Meeting, but check the calendar for dates.
Whilst Chris is away, Michael Flett is taking bookings for Driver Training. Contact Michael either by e-mail or call him on 02 9711 7009 or 04 0790 0466
Topics covered in the Driver Training Course include
Practical driving over
a variety of terrain and obstacles
Stall Starts
Road building
Choosing your path
Basic recovery techniques
It is a condition of Club Membership that
you complete the Club Driver Training Course (regardless of prior
4WD experience) before you are permitted to drive
on a Club trip.
Special exemption may be granted by the Club’s Committee
in exceptional circumstances.
The Driver Training Course is currently conducted
at Menai over a full weekend, although it does not involve overnight camping. As part of our arrangements for
access to the Menai Land, all participants in the Driver Training Course are required to assist
in the Clean-up of the Menai area before the course commences.
In the near future, our driver training course will be moved to our own land near Goulburn, where a range of purpose built tracks and drives around the local area will expose participants to a variety of terrains and track surfaces. The land also has facilities to conduct other educational functions, such as courses in GPS operation and first aid.

Own a "soft-roader"?
Please note that whilst the Club is
open to any vehicle, you must have a 4WD with Low-Range gearing
in order to safely complete the Driver Training Course. “Soft Roaders” (e.g. Nissan X-Trail, Toyota RAV-4, Honda CR-V etc) are not suitable for the Driver Training
Course (Hint: borrow a friend's 4WD).
The ability to take Soft-Roaders on Club Trips is at the
sole discretion of the Trip Leader.
Sand Driving Training
The Club runs regular sand driver training days at Stockton Beach. Learn how to safely negotiate dunes, drive on a beach and carry out recoveries in the sand. Check the calendar for the next sand driving course.
Ladies Driver Training
As the need arises, the Nissan Patrol 4WD Club holds special “Ladies" Driver Training days. The course is exactly the same as the normal course, but husbands, boyfriends etc are prohibited from travelling in the vehicle with their partner. This allows the girls to “relax” a little.
