The Nissan Trials
are an inter-club competition hosted each year by the Nissan Patrol
Club of NSW & ACT with the generous assistance of its sponsors.
What started as little more than an inter-club funkhana has now
grown into one of the largest and most exciting 4WD events in
NSW. In 2007, teams from 25 4WD Clubs will be competing at the
18th Nissan Trials
The Nissan Trials are seen as one of the ultimate tests of vehicle ability and driver skill. They also provide a great weekend's entertainment. For some reports on previous Nissan Trials, including results and great action photos, click here.
Competitors from 4WD Clubs must negotiate a total of 8 different events, 4 each on Saturday and Sunday. The events include hill climbs, water crossings, rock steps, "wombat holes", and the infamous "Duckies' Dam" bog hole - all purpose built to test man and machine to the limit. Points are scored on an individual basis based upon the distance each competitor achieved along the event before being ruled "out".
Competitor's vehicles are graded into four classes, being:
Standard Class - no traction control and only minor modifications to the suspension and/or engine
Modified Class - some traction control and engine/suspension modifications
Open Class - traction control and significant modifications to the suspension and/or engine allowed
Outlaw Class - (Almost) anything goes
Note that the above is a guide
only. Actual class modification allowances are set out in
the Nissan Trials
Rules.
Prizes are awarded in each class as well as to the team that achieved the highest score overall. A Perpetual Shield is awarded to the Club with the highest aggregate score. The overall and club awards are based on an adjusted score, where each competitor receives a weighting on their raw score based on the class of their vehicle.
